Artichoke, Imperial Star
Cynara cardunculus (Scolymus group)

A thornless variety developed by the University of California to be grown as an annual. Matures much earlier than the standard Green Globe variety. Chokes are glossy green and round, up to 4.5 inches at fresh market and are slow to spread open when mature. Tender with a sweet mild flavor. Very productive with excellent uniformity. More tolerant to cool weather than other green globe types. (PVP, 1991, Regents of University of California)
